when noa first began we started with four core blends these were; Anxious Mind, Nap Time (now known as ‘rest), Chill Out and Soft Sheets (now known as Sanctuary). we’ve come a long way since then and now offer over 12 unique blends across our range but one thing that remains the same is the driving force behind each one we create which is the ability different blends have to completely transform your space and mood.
the art of aromatherapy and scent is extremely powerful and it’s one of my favourite parts of noa, some blends can take months, even years to perfect with each serving a different purpose, whether that be to calm a mind, boost a mood, energise and awaken or ground in the present. this is, and always will be something that plays a huge part in the future development of the brand and offering at NOA.
how our blends are made
for almost five years now I have been studying aromatherapy and growing my knowledge and skills on blend pairings and scent creation with hopes in the next three years to become a fully qualified aromatherapist - this isn’t an overnight thing of-course, but it’s something I have loved for years and the ability it has to completely alter your life, essential oils are extremely powerful things and when used correctly can alleviate a whole bunch of emotional, physical and mental pain, however this is not what we are here to talk about right now!
a typical blend development process at noa begins with ordering in different fragrance samples, oils and blends from specialist suppliers of candle friendly oils and fragrances. once these arrive we begin testing each combination and working on an initial formula that we love - this is a lot of nose sniffing and trial and error, sometimes things you think will work don’t and sometimes the most unexpected pairings can work amazingly together!
once we’ve done this we go onto the initial blend testing (within the candle/diffuser etc) to see how it performs, we run extensive tests across all of our products to ensure the highest quality scent throw, longevity and of-course safety, this is something we take extremely seriously and are members of the British Candlemakers Federation to ensure we are fully up to date and legally compliant at all times.
after we are happy with how this performs we head into the final approval stages for the blend, this includes getting the blend tested and approved legally for use in candles and provides us with all the relevant allergens and things in order to make them legally compliant. it’s a long process, but so worth it and ensures that you receive the safest and unique scents which are like no other brand on the market.
